Destination: The Grove, Marlborough, MA

A Hidden Gem for Dog Lovers

If you’re like us and always on the lookout for peaceful, dog-friendly places to explore with your pups, let us introduce you to one of our favorite local spots: The Grove in Marlborough, MA. It’s a simple, no-frills destination—but that’s exactly what makes it so special. On a warm afternoon, we loaded up The Trio and made our way to this little lakeside retreat.

Finding The Grove

Located just off Route 85, The Grove has a small, unassuming parking lot that’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. There’s no grand sign, no flashy entrance—just a short path shaded by trees that invites you in like a well-kept local secret.

As you start your walk, the world seems to quiet. The trail winds gently through the woods, with little coves and stone outcroppings along the way where locals stop to fish or sit and soak in the serenity. It’s calm, it’s beautiful, and it sets the tone for a relaxed and dog-centered outing.

What Makes It Special for Dogs

After a few minutes of walking, the path opens up to a small park bench with zero-entry access to the water—perfect for dogs who love to wade in slowly or run straight in with joyful abandon. Our Trio wasted no time racing for the water with their tails wagging and noses sniffing the lake breeze.

Although there’s a posted sign asking for dogs to remain leashed, there’s a bit of an unspoken understanding here. Most owners, like us, keep a close eye on their pups and allow them a little freedom to swim and play. The space is open, but not too large—just enough for a fun swim session and a few rounds of fetch without worrying about anyone wandering too far.

And best of all? Everyone you meet here is a dog person. Whether you’re crossing paths with a golden retriever chasing a ball, a beagle sniffing every rock, or a doodle shaking off lake water in a proud little cloud, you’ll find that fellow dog owners are friendly, respectful, and just happy to share this hidden gem.

What to Bring

Since The Grove is more rustic than refined, you’ll want to come prepared:

  • Bring water toys or floating balls – fetch in the water is always a hit with our crew.

  • Pack your own doggy cleanup supplies, even though there’s often a bin near the parking lot.

  • Towels, towels, towels – because wet dogs + car rides = you know how that ends.

  • No restrooms, no snack bars, and no lifeguards – this is very much a bring-what-you-need kind of destination.

The only real “traffic” you might see on the water are the occasional rowboats or paddle boarders, but the lake is mostly quiet and calm. That’s what makes it such a peaceful spot for a midday cool-down with your pup.

Why We Keep Going Back

The Grove has become a reliable go-to when we need an easy, satisfying outing that gets the dogs moving and soaking up the sunshine. There are no big crowds, no loud noise, and no distractions—just dogs doing what dogs do best: running, swimming, sniffing, and enjoying the moment.

After an hour or two here, The Trio is delightfully tired, and we’re left with the kind of quiet contentment that only comes from sharing something simple and joyful with our dogs.

If you’re in the area and need a change of pace—or just want to discover a new spot your dog will thank you for—add The Grove in Marlborough to your summer adventure list. You won’t be disappointed.
