Destination: Crab Beach, Gloucester

There’s something about salty air and a brisk ocean breeze that just resets everything. Now add dogs into the mix… four of them, to be exact—and you’ve got the perfect day.

After a long winter of hibernation (while still building and growing a stronger Fenway Bark behind the scenes), we’re finally back out exploring. And kicking off our 2026 adventures? None other than Crab Beach in Gloucester—better known by locals as Dog Beach.

Dog Beach is a hidden gem right along the main beach road, and one of the best parts? Dogs are allowed year-round.Access is via a stairway that leads you down to a wide, open shoreline where the fun begins.

Once you hit the bottom:

  • Dogs can roam off-leash

  • There’s plenty of space to run, explore, and sniff

  • The area is naturally enclosed by stone walls and water, giving it a bit of a built-in boundary

That said—if you’ve got runners (hello, Huskies 😅), it’s smart to stay near the stairs or keep a close eye.

The beach itself is rocky rather than sandy, but honestly? The dogs didn’t care one bit. Between the ocean smells, seaweed treasures, and endless stimulation, it’s basically enrichment heaven.

We spent about an hour letting the Fenway Four run, splash, and live their best lives.

From the beach, we took the path over to Stage Fort Park—which is the perfect next stop.

It’s ideal for:

  • Letting the dogs dry off

  • Enjoying scenic walking trails

  • Snapping some incredible coastal photos

And bonus perks:

  • A full bathhouse with running water (huge upgrade from portable toilets)

  • A playground for kids

  • An on-site dog park

We were able to enter the dog park without issue, though during peak season it may require a permit. Either way, you’re not missing much if you skip it:

  • Large fenced area ✔️

  • But no water, no equipment, and dirt ground

Honestly, we’d choose more beach time or trail walking over the dog park any day.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a dog owner who loves the ocean, this spot is absolutely worth the trip. It’s relaxed, spacious, and full of natural enrichment opportunities your pup will love.

Crab Beach + Stage Fort Park = the perfect combo of off-leash freedom, scenic walks, and fresh ocean air.

The Fenway Four officially kicked off their 2026 adventure season in style… and this is just the beginning
